The following information is about the civil war and from Encyclopedia Britannica.

American Civil War which occurred in the United States from 1881 to 1865  was a civil war between the Northern and Southern States. The main cause of this war were the economic differences between North and South. While in the northern state existed mature industry, the economy in south was based on agricultural activities (cultivation of cotton). 

The other huge cause was slavery. On a huge cotton plantations in Southern America black people were considered as a slaves. Their “lives” were literally in the hand of their owners, they treated them like they were nothing. Abraham Lincoln which was the new president were strongly against this system (slavery). Southern states after the election of President Lincoln responded with a secession from the Union and claimed the declaration of independence of Confederate States of America  (CSA). Jefferson Davis which was elected as a CSA president helped adopt a new flag for the Confederate States of America. The fact that the state of Virginia was so strongly against the connection with South, started the war.

Southern troops under the command of General Lee had initially significant advantages. They came dangerously close to the capital city of North Washington, but they failed occupying it. The defeat of the North seemed inevitable. Unlikely the South, the North could restore their army.

The important battle of Gettysburg in 1863, where North is winning began. After two years of exhausting fighting, which claimed huge casualties, but the northern army led by generals Grant and Sherman, drove the enemy to failure. General Sherman with his troops penetrated into the territory of the Confederation and systematically destroyed the economic base of the South. Finally, he managed to split the Confederacy which he prevent supplying the North army who was fighting in the east against Grant

The Battle of Appomattox in 1865 ended by winning the North when the South gave up. After the occupation of the largest Confederate seats the general Lee with his army surrendered. The part of the war was also the naval battle at Hampton Roads, with the participation of the two warships. The winner of the combat has become the Union because South prevent the further destruction of their ships. After the war the unit remained in the south of the Union and began the process of transforming the whole society,which ended up in the second half of the 20th century, the prohibition of segregation.

The Civil War marked the completion of one of the saddest periods in human history and the beginning of another, we know the term as a racism. Despite the fact that by law that every American citizen should have equal rights regardless of any color of skin, awareness of racial differences of the human mind could not be erased. Although that the slavery was officially abolished, attacks against blacks still continued.
