Kadra Mohammed, first Somali police woman in St. Paul, Minnesota

SUMMARY

In the article “She carries a badge in Minnesota, the first Somali policewoman in St. Paul” it tells about a Somali policewoman Kadra who is the only police woman in St. Paul, Minnesota; where there are lots of immigrants from Somalia, Africa. When Africa was on war and violence, Kadra’s parents moved From Africa to Minnesota to get out of the chaos and started a family. When Kadra went to college, her first choice is to be a lawyer but then she changed her mind and became a police instead, because she wanted to help her community. Her job is to get out into neighborhoods and visit with local business owners and residents. Her main goal is to maintain peace and avoid racism or discrimination among people in their community, since there is strained relationship between Somalia immigrants and the city. She wants everyone to treat each other equal. She will even arrest a Somalia guy to be equal, though in their tradition men has more power than women, but she has to do it if he violated something. Some Somalia people think Kadra is crazy and should nopt be a police, but having police officers like Kadra can make things better with Minnesota Somali community’s major problems like, criminal street gangs and young Somali men who leave Minnesota to fight in wars in Somalia, Syria and Iraq.

ANALYSIS
I feel that the Somali community of St. Paul Minnesota really need a police officer like Kadra Mohammed who treats people equal and makes the neighborhood a peaceful place. Kadra is really brave and tough to be able to handle these kind of jobs or responsibility.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What do you think About Kadra Mohammed being the only Woman in Minnesota? Do you think it really has an impact regarding with making/maintaining things better in Minnesota?

Will You Die By Ebola in USA?

The geographic theme of human environment interaction proves that geography is destiny in West Africa because the Ebola which is infecting all over the place, can not possibly been stopped by the people living there who do not have the technology or the human resource to cure such disease.

According to Africa News Service, even though there are so many countries donated and sent health volunteers to such place, the disease, Ebola, still can not be cured or limited by the resource people used. Everyone wishes that they can do the movements ideally to the place they wanted to go, but the thing which determine the choice limitation is that the human environment interaction. People who originally lived there build up the environment that the future generation would live in, which means no one can decide how their hometown would look like when the time they born. Who your parents are, what do they do, and where they have stayed pretty much impact your future, and those all count as the word “destiny”.

http://media3.s-nbcnews.com/

Los Angeles Times stated that World Health Organization said that every time a doctor or nurse gets sick or dies from Ebola, the ability to stop the spread of the disease is significantly reduced. All the people in the world who have the ability to help are trying to help the very location, but all we are doing so far is sacrifice more educated human resource to fill the abyss made by local “human environment interaction”. More and more advanced countries started worrying about the such contagious disease would spread to their own country and causes unnecessary loss, therefore, people started the counter proposal of volunteers to “send and die” in the specific region.

How do we slow down the spread of Ebola?

The geographic theme of movement proves that geography is destiny in West Africa because the disease is moving to West Africa. According to article title “U.S. and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus.” Article TITLE states that to slow down the spread of the deadly virus Ebola, the United States and Britain are sending troops and equipment to West Africa. Therefore, this shows that the military forces will build treatment centers in Liberia and Sierra Leone to help care for victims of the virus.

Ebola is fatal for between 50 percent and 80 percent of the people who get it. It has killed more than 2,000 people. According to article title,”Health officials say Ebola unlikely to spread to US. Article TITLE states that International health officials warned that the deadly Ebola virus in Africa was moving faster than They could control it. Meanwhile, U.S health providers prepared for the arrival of two Americans infected with the disease. The two Americans are moved to Atlanta. Therefore, this shows that they are going to use the traditional means work. They described communication between health care workers, identifying people who are infected, isolating them from other people and finding people they have been in contact with. THis is what has stopped every Ebola outbreak that’s ever happened before. That is what will stop this Ebola outbreak.

Is Geography Destiny?

The geographic theme of region and movement proves that geography is destiny in West Africa because the region where people live affect their lives, how they live and their health as well. Therefore it’s like they’re destined to get that disease because they live there.

Region

According to Answers About Ebola, “The disease  Ebola gets its name from the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The disease was first reported in a village on the river in 1976”.U.S. and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus states that, “the outbreak began in Guinea. It quickly spread to the other African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal”.This shows that the region has something to do with the people in that specific place like Western Africa or spreading of disease. They acquired the disease because they live in that area.

Movement

According to the article Answers About Ebola, “the two American aid workers who recently became infected with Ebola in West Africa were flown back to the U.S. and hospitalized immediately”. Answers About Ebola states that, “Disease has spread through the West African countries of Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and, most recently, Nigeria”.This demonstrates that movement has an effect too, like the movement of people from US to Africa can get this disease called Ebola which is also moving/spreading everyday throughout Western Africa and in the future it can also spread in the whole world if it wasn’t cured.

Dead or live?

The geographic theme of location proves that geography is destiny in West Africa because the people who live in this area have to face the virus, but people live in others place will not worry about that in the short term.
According to Answers About Ebola, the Ebola virus is not gonna spread all over the world in the short term, so the people don’t live in west Africa will face the totally different fate. Health officials say Ebola unlikely to spread to U.S. states that if any people in the USA was infected by Ebola virus, the will be isolate at once, but in west Africa, most people don’t even know that they got sick, so the risk to got sick is more higher than in USA. Once people got sick, the medicine level have a lot of gap.
Therefore, this proves that people bron in different place produce the totally difference in their life, and that’s even influence the risk of death. According to Obama Commits 'Military Assets' for Ebola Health-Care Surge, people in America should not be afraid of Ebola virus and the government promise the virus will not influence the USA in short term. Obama Commits 'Military Assets' for Ebola Health-Care Surge states that the USA is not only will not be affect by Ebola virus but send some experts to west Africa to help as well. Therefore, this demonstrates that the location is surely affect people’s fate because if you are living in a better country, you can accept better medication environment and be isolation so that the virus will not infect.

Ebola,a new disease in Africa

http://localtvkdvr.files.wordpress.com

The geographic theme of interaction of humans with environment proves that geography is not destiny in West Africa because people around the world have tried to stop the spread of Ebola.

According to Answer About Ebola by Nicoletta Richardson, some special medical planes and vehicles were used to transport the infected patients to prevent the disease from spreading.U.S. and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus by Los Angeles Times states that President Barack Obama said the U.S. military will help set up isolation units and equipment for health workers. Therefore, this shows that people tried to isolate the patience from the public to keep Ebola from spreading, and then less and less people will be inflected.

According to U.S. and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus by Los Angeles Times , the United States and Britain are sending troops and equipment to West Africa to slow down the spread of the deadly virus Ebola.U.S. and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus by Los Angeles Times states that the military forces will build treatment centers in Liberia and Sierra Leone to help care for victims of the virus. Therefore, this shows that doctors tried to save the inflected people’s life, scientists forces on researching a new medicine. If we keep doing it, more and more people will be cured, and some day the Ebola will be treated.

Is Ebola avoidable?

The geographic themes of place and movement prove that geography is a destiny in west Africa because Ebola is contiguous, many people that are not in the original country are getting sick because of the disease movement.

http://i.huffpost.com/
PLACE
The article “Answer for Ebola” by Nicoletta Richardson from TIME children proves that geographic theme “Place” can affect a person’s destiny. Richardson states that “A new outbreak of this disease has spread through the West African countries of Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and, most recently, Nigeria.” Ebola has spread out in a very rapid speed recently. There are more than 2,000 people who have infected with this disease, and half of them did not survive. Since Ebola is highly contagious, there is a big chance that other countries will refuse these people to go into the country and receive treatments. Those people do not have other choices but go back to their country. But is it their faults to get the disease? Apparently the answer is no. They could not choose where they were born or where they live. The geographic theme “Place” has clearly changed these people’s destinies.

MOVEMENT
Another geographic theme that has a significant effect on people’s destinies is “Movement”. Sometimes citizens could not choose what kind of information or disease to receive. For example, an article in TIME children named “Answers for Ebola” provide some ways that Ebola can infect, “Ebola spread through direct body fluids contact, such as blood, sweat, saliva, and urine.” People contact these fluids in a daily basis such as shaking hands, hugging or sneezing. It is hard tell who has disease who does not. However people cannot stop socialize to prevent the disease. Sometimes it is unavoidable that the Ebola spreads out. The only way to stop the disease is to isolate all the patients. This means to stop the disease move from one place to another. This task if very difficult to accomplish as the number of infecter climbs up, but people have to act now or it will be even harder in the future. The citizens’ lives are tied together with the movement of Ebola.

Is Geography Destiny?

The geographic theme of interaction between human and enviromernt shows that geography is destiny in West Africa because people who live there could not run away from the place and there is limited source from other countries can be carried into the place. According to US and British Troops head to West Africa to help Fight Ebola Virus, hospitals in West Africa don’t have ability to help all people that were infected; treatment centers were overflew, and even some health workers were infected.  This proves that the hospitals there were bad, and they could not stop the virus.
nbcnews.com
However, the situation in America is totally different.  In the article Health officials say Ebola unlikely to spread to U.S, we could learn that there were two americans who were infected Ebola came back to America.  They were taken by Emory University Hospital, and been treated in a special containment unit.  Therefor, these shows us that how people were treated differently in two different hospitals.  This is why I think interactions of human and environment supports that geography is destiny.

The Movement Of Ideas

The geographic theme of Movement
proves that geography is not destiny in West
Africa.
http://www.ideasforus.org/
Because nowadays, the movement idea between people is much more easy than before.

You can communicate with anyone you want on internet. This lets people’s ideas shape with others so easy.
According to Newsela there is a banner in Monrovia, Liberia, which warns people about Ebola. That warning states "Ebola is real, Protect yourself and your family". It can get people an idea that when you have something it matters. You need to see the doctor. Therefore, this proves that the movement between people can help the people in West Africa to change their future.

Ebola Crisis, World War E ?

Does Geography change destiny? I say yes, of course it does. When a person is born and lived nears an ocean or a body of water, they’ll most likely to be a fisherman or if someone is born and lived in a religious family, most likely they are going to follow a religion as they grow up. people’s future is going to be based on the surrounding  of their birth place, if they continue to live there that is. The geography theme of movement proves that geography does change a person’s future.
A good example is the current Ebola crisis that is going on in West Africa right now. In the article Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield Visit to the Ebola Emergency Center. it said that People are restrained from physical contact with one another and asked to kept on top of their personal hygiene. people are asked to do things because of the disease. Think about it, if they lived in somewhere far away from West Africa, will they go through what they are going through right now?

http://sharing.wxyz.com

Another article U.S. and Britain sending troops to combat Ebola in West Africa stated that People are being isolated from those who are infected. People are being ask to stay in there house or to stay in a specific part of the hospital. The disease are making mankind to do whats right to protected themselves. If the disease doesn't exist, will people be isolated from their loved ones? I don't think so.

Destiny is controlled by geography, no matter what your future is determined by the surrounding they lived in. Just like how people’s lives are being judged by the disease in Africa.

Are the animals the cause of Ebola?

The geographic theme of place proves that geography is destiny because the disease Ebola started in west Africa and in Africa they have different animals, diseases and in some places they are not as advanced as us.
According to Los Angeles Times The United States and Britain are sending troops to l try and help stop a deadly disease. The troops will build treatment centers in Liberia and Sierra Leone to cure Ebola Both countries are in West Africa. This show that Liberia and sierra are not as wealthy as the United States because they don't have good hospitals to cure Ebola. Also the people there live in a warm conditions. In article U.S. and Britain to help stop Ebola from spreading in West Africa it also said that the people  were avoiding contact with people. So the people in that area are most likely to die of it.

Ebola Virus

According to :
(Why U.S must lead Ebola fight by William Foege , James Mason, David Satcher ),”To date, more than 1,550 people in West Africa have perished from Ebola, and individual families have suffered unspeakable loss”. Another problem is that the area that has Ebola does not have resources ( medication, food, hospitals, doctors ) because these things are being used for other diseases in the region. Not only infected people are dieing but also help workers who want to help because there is no vaccine or treatment for this kind of disease. The U.S is trying to help but they can not do it alone so another countries have to help

Ebola: A disaster

http://www.thehealthsite.com/diseases-conditions

The geographic theme of region proves that geography is destiny in West Africa because the environment is different from that in America. There is less hospitals and may have strange virus which won’t appear in here. And people lives in America will get the best treatment when they catch a badly disease. According to the article “Answers About Ebolaby Nicoletta Richardson, the Ebola has already made a mess in Africa. There are already more than 2,000 people died.Answers About Ebola” states that as soon as a new Ebola care center opens, it is immediately full. Therefore, this shows that the Ebola is really dangerous and causes a chaos.According to “$200 million World Bank pledge to finance projects in response to Ebola outbreak in West Africa”, As part of its recently announced $200 million emergency aid package, the World Bank will be launching various projects to help contain the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. Therefore, this proves that governments make efforts to save people from Ebola. It’s hard, but I think it’s not impossible to win.

Deadly Virus ! ! !

The geographic theme of  movement proves that geography  is  destiny  in  West Africa  because of spreading the infection in certain parts of Africa made people worry about their health and the health of their families  people decided to move to stay health and protect their families.

According to “U.S." and British troops head to West Africa to help fight Ebola virus

” we can prove that the United States and Britain send their troops to help people in West Africa and slow down the spread .Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the outbreak is exceeding its ability to control it”.

Also to slow down the spread of the deadly virus Ebola, the United States and Britain are sending troops and equipment to West Africa, this is the exapmle of movement too.

Can US help East Africa to cure Ebola?

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/
The geographic theme of  movement proves that geography is not destiny in West Africa because they are getting help from other countries. According to (Answers of Ebola/ By Nicoletta Richardson) states that “ Treatment includes making sure they get plenty of liquids and oxygen, keeping their blood pressure steady, and addressing symptoms and complications as they come up.” Therefore this shows me that Americans helped two infected people, and can help hundreds. Doctors are trying to make vaccine so that can cure Ebola.
